Underfloor Heating for Existing Properties

Underfloor Heating for Existing Properties

Underfloor Heating can be used on your refurbishment project. We offer various underfloor heating systems that increase the floor height by a minimal amount. These can also incorporate insulation where there is none in the slab. These underfloor heating systems are generally known as overlay systems. Our underfloor heating systems can also be used in between the joists on your existing floor.

WHAT SYSTEMS DO WE OFFER?

We offer a variety of underfloor Heating Systems for both overlay and between joist applications. These include but are not limited to;

THERMOFLOOR OVERLAY WITH FOIL

This system uses a pre-routed Extruded or EPS Insulation Board that is laminated with a 90μm Foil. The pipe is laid into the pre-routed grooves, and the turns at either end of the room are pre-routed into the board. This system is ideal for use in a building with well insulated walls and roof. It is available in varying thicknesses, the minimum being 25mm. Additional grooves can be cut into the insulation for example where pipes run through one room to the other with a special tool. It is recommended this product is covered with a 6mm ply for tiling, or a Screed Replacement board for carpets or vinyl. Some timber floors can be installed direct to the system. The grooves can be at 150mm or 200mm to suit use with a Heat Pump or Boiler.

THERMOFLOOR OVERLAY WITH SPREADER PLATES

This system uses a pre-routed Extruded or EPS Insulation Board and 500μm aluminium spreader plates. The spreader plates are installed into the grooves, and the inderfloor hjeating pipework is laid into the grooves of the spreader plates. The thicker spreader plates allow for higher heat outputs than the foil faced overlay product. The grooves can be at 150mm or 200mm to suit use with a Heat Pump or Boiler.

THERMOFLOOR VARIOKOMP

This system uses a special pre-routed 18mm Gypsum Fibreboard which is laid directly onto a flat floor or insulation. Our special Varioprofile Underfloor Heating Pipe is then installed into the pre-routed Fibreboard. The Fibreboard is ideal for underfloor heating installations as it gives a massive flexibility in design layout, allowing both the ‘snailshell’ or ‘serpentine’ design. Once installed and commissioned the Fibreboard is overlaid with a filling compound that is self smoothing, leaving a floor that is suitable for Tile or Timber. A further coat of levelling compound is required for use with Vinyl or Carpets to give a smoother surface and to protect the pipe. Specialist insulation from 10mm – 30mm in thickness is available with this product to prevent downward heat losses. This is our lowest profile Underfloor Heating Solution available, which only increases floor height by 18mm (excluding finishes & insulaiton).

THERMOFLOOR JOIST SYSTEM

This system uses Aluminium Spreader Plates which are fastened to the existing joists with the underfloor heating pipe installed into them. The joists are notched out at either end to allow the pipe to run in-between each of them. It is recommended that rather than standard floor board or chipboard flooring a Screed Replacement Board is used, this board is thermally transparent and will make for a more efficient underfloor heating system.

THERMOFLOOR PUGG SCREED SYSTEM

This system can be installed either between joists or using battens on an existing floor. The underfloor heating pipe is fastened to the timber deck using a ‘p clip’, or alternatively fastened to the insulation using our barbed underfloor heating clips. A thin layer (normally 25mm thick) of weak mix screed is installed between the joists to distribute the heat from the UFH pipe evenly across the floor. This is not a load bearing floor, and, as such will be covered with a Screed Replacement Board (recommended).
